My Story

Judy Z.

Hi. My name is Judy and I love all things quilt!

My grandmother made me a quilt when I was younger. Nothing special ... just scraps of whatever she had on hand, as they did back in the day. But oh how special and magical it was to me with all her love wrapped up in it. I treasured that quilt so much, I packaged it up and set high up on the shelf to stay safe. Isn’t that what you do with special things?

Time passed, and while looking for some special birthday gift for my daughter I remembered my treasured quilt from grandma. I always wanted to figure out how to make my own quilts and now I had a good reason to spend the days while the kids were in school sewing (and ripping!) quilt blocks, then hiding them away before the kids got home. What a surprise that was for my tomboy daughter! Cowboy boot blocks of all colors! She still has that quilt and loves it all these years later. I asked her recently where it is, and she said its so special she boxed it up and put it on the top shelf to stay safe! What goes around comes around I guess. So I gave her the wisdom that quilts are meant to be loved and snuggled.

Now, so many years later, I’m still making quilts to be loved and snuggled. They’re not always perfect, as none of us are, but they are warm, beautiful expressions of love. They are, each one, an heirloom. Some say they are expensive, but I want them to last long after I am gone. I use only the best quality quilting cottons, threads and battings available, all made in the good old USA. I’m fortunate to be able to have the very best sewing equipment available also, so each step of the process from cutting, to piecing, to longarm quilting is done with the most precision and skill possible.
